PostScript® Printing Files Update 1.0.3
for Adobe® PageMaker® 6.5 or later for MacOS®
The PostScript printing files in this update fix two printing problems in Adobe PageMaker 6.5 or later for MacOS. One problem occurs when printing publications with colored text. The other problem occurs when imaging separations that include a grayscale bitmap image. You'll find a detailed description of the printing problems and installation notes for the printing files.
P65ps.ps
The P65ps.ps file fixes a PostScript error that occurs when exporting a booked publication to PDF (Portable Document Format) for on-screen (RGB) viewing, and text in the publication has a color whose blue channel is set to 255 (such as white, which is 255 red, 255 green, and 255 blue).
P65sep.ps
The P65sep.ps file fixes a problem in the way Adobe PageMaker 6.5 images separations as negatives from a publication that contains a grayscale bitmap EPS image. When PageMaker images the separations, the plate with the grayscale image prints correctly. However, on non-black plates, a 100% color rectangle overprints (prints on top of) the grayscale image, rather than knocking out the image.
The problem occurs only when all three of the following conditions exist:
- The PageMaker publication contains a grayscale bitmap EPS image.
- The separations are imaged from PageMaker.
- The Negative option in the PageMaker Print Color dialog box is selected.
You can avoid this printing problem altogether if you set the negative state for imaging outside PageMaker (for example, at the output device's marking engine or at the raster image processor or RIP). See the note below. For more information about imaging color separations, see pages 403-410 in the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 User Guide.
Note: When imaging separations as negatives from any publishing application, you will get the most reliable results if you set the negative state at the end of the imaging process (at the output device's marking engine or at the RIP). The RIP is the part of the output device that rasterizes digital information (converts data into dots on film or paper). For information on how to set the negative state, see the documentation that came with your output device.

Adobe PageMaker 6.5 or later for MacOS (all European language versions of PageMaker; not required for double-byte Asian language versions)
Installation notes
This component has been updated since it was first posted online. If you have previously downloaded the component from the Adobe Web site, please check the version number and the date it was posted to ensure that you have the most recent version. If you have not installed the most recent version, remove the original component from your hard disk through the Windows Explorer or Macintosh Finder. Then install the updated component, following the directions below.
To use one or both of the updated PostScript printing files, follow the steps below after downloading the files.
To install the files:
1. Quit PageMaker.
2. Copy the P65sep.ps and P65ps.ps files into the RSRC folder in the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 folder.
3. Restart PageMaker.
